Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kenyatta Anderson, Founder of Ken Flex Fitness, LLC., located in Elgin, SC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Ken Flex Fitness, LLC., is a fitness and wellness business with the purpose of educating clients and customers on how to maintain a sustainable lifestyle through exercise and nutrition. Transitioning to a healthier lifestyle is a marathon, not a race! I teach my clients how to properly perform exercises without injury and guide them to healthier nutritional choices. My services include Personal Training, Online Coaching, Digital Programs, Nutrition Guides, and more! My clients and customers are men and women who are looking to make lifestyle changes!

Tell us about yourself

When I graduated from college in 2019, I got my first full-time job at Verizon as a Health and Wellness Coordinator/Personal Trainer. I was also training clients on the side as well. In 2020, the outbreak of covid caused me to unwillingly switch job titles. I found myself working for HR for a covid relief team, and I absolutely hated it! My passion has always been a fitness and health & wellness, so working in HR was a huge adjustment. Instead of being miserable, I decided to make a change and quit my job. I planned and prepared to make that big step because I knew I was destined to make my own path.

My clients motivate me each day! I know they rely on my skills and services to reach their goals. I'm doing my job right if my clients are happy and seeing results.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building my clientele! I'm passionate about what I do, and my work is a direct reflection. It still puts a smile on my face when people choose little ole me to be their trainer. I'm blessed to be able to make a positive impact on so many people, and I pray my business continues to grow so that I can continue to do so!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is the ups and downs! Because you work independently, you have no real gauge of what's right or wrong. Everything solely relies on the decisions you make, which can be very stressful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be passionate! A business is like a flower- the more love, light, and energy you put into it, the more it will grow.
  2. Put in the work! You're working solely for yourself now; don't be afraid to sell your product or services.
  3. Keep learning! There are always new ways to better your product or service. Aim to be the best at whatever you do.
