Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelsey Mauro, CEO of Kelsey Mauro Wellness, located in Franklin, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called Kelsey Mauro Wellness. I help clients virtually all over the world achieve optimal gut health by utilizing functional medicine practices and functional medicine labs and creating customized nutritional counseling, lifestyle modifications, and supplementation recommendations for each client. My clients have a variety of gut health concerns, including but not limited to bloating, constipation, joint pain, fatigue, skin issues, and/or reflux.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Board Certified Physician Assistant and have been practicing as a PA since 2011. For the past 8 years, I have worked in dermatology and have seen how much people are suffering from inflammatory skin conditions, including psoriasis, acne, and eczema. I myself have also struggled with acne my entire life, and after I started studying functional medicine, I was able to get to the root cause of it and clear it up. What motivates me every day is seeing the results my clients get and how much better their lives are because of it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is starting something from nothing that allows people to achieve optimal health and wellness.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is also the best thing for me in that every aspect of my business, from services to content to marketing, is all dependent on me, but having to challenge myself on a daily basis and think of new and creative ways to improve my business has made me a better person and entrepreneur.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Most people get overwhelmed when trying to start something. So my first piece of advice is if you are looking to start something, then start.
  2. Perfection is an unobtainable burden, so don’t focus on trying to be perfect, focus on trying to create progress.
  3. One thousand little steps will get you much further than one giant leap. So instead of trying to bite off more than you can chew, accomplish what you can every day. What you’ll see is that in a short while, you’ll have a thriving business and keep your sanity in the process.
