Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kayla Keller, Founder of High Level Fitness and Therapy, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a one-stop wellness shop offering Sports Medicine, Fitness, and Nutritional Coaching. My clientele range from recreational athletes to professional athletes and all in between.

Tell us about yourself

I have been practicing Sports Medicine for 12 years now, as I was attracted to the possibility of combining my love for sports with my passion for helping others. Fitness came along later and has been equally satisfying in working with others towards the best versions of themselves.

My passion is what gets me out of bed, and the fact that medicine and fitness are ever-expanding always keeps me on my toes. I am thankful to be practicing in a profession that is constantly evolving.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has probably been that I fully relocated 6 months into the business. While this was high risk, I've been able to accomplish more than I could have imagined had I not moved.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is navigating the lows of business. Major businesses have the luxury of not feeling the effects of "slow seasons," unlike small businesses. It can very much be a feast or famine experience.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

MY 3 tips for aspiring entrepreneurs are:

  1. Take the risk. The worst-case scenario is that it doesn't work out. You won't battle the "what ifs" later in life.
  2. Utilize your network. You'd be surprised at who's willing to support you.
  3. Don't be afraid to step back and adjust your lens when you've seemingly hit a wall. We live in a time where things change in the blink of an eye. Be flexible.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's High Level, not eye level. We strive for the best results on the HLFT team, and that is what makes us so great!
