Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katrin Berndt, a relationship coach based in Motala, Östergötland, Sweden.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help grumpy girlfriends overcome jealousy, anxiety, and overthinking in order to enjoy their good relationships.
Tell us about yourself
I was a grumpy, jealous girlfriend for the first five years of my relationship. In the beginning, I thought my partner might be the problem. So I spent some time trying to change and fix him. Turns out, he wasn't actually the problem... because no matter what he did, it didn't make me feel better. I realized that it's my own thoughts and feelings that are causing these issues, and I needed to find a solution that fixed myself rather than my partner. Sadly, the only resources I found assumed that the relationship or the partner was the problem. And if I ever found any help surrounding jealousy or working on myself, the only advice was "love yourself more." Which wasn't very helpful.
So that's when I started the journey of trying to figure out "what's wrong with me." I went to therapy, saw doctors, changed my birth control, etc. Nothing worked. Eventually, I found coaching, and within months my life was changed. I now am able to take full responsibility for my own thoughts and feelings, and most importantly, I am able to enjoy my good relationship. So that's what motivates me today; I don't want girlfriends in good relationships to suffer because of their own brains.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Every single one of my clients that I have helped. Every person who has learned how to process uncomfortable emotions, manage their minds, and show up as the girlfriends they want to be, is my biggest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Belief ahead of time. You have to believe that things are possible before you can make them happen. You need to think big, dream big, and bet on yourself all the time... even if you don't currently have any evidence that it will work.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Pick a clear niche, don't help "everyone." Have a clear offer that your specific niche wants, not "live your best life." And be mindful of your positioning in the market and make it work for you because it's what separates you from the rest. Niche + offer + positioning = results. If you're not getting results, you need to start tweaking.
