Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kathryn May, an Author and Certified Mental Health and Weight Loss Mindset Coach based in Fayetteville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an author and certified mental health and weight loss mindset coach. I've developed "Drop the Weight," a transformational group coaching program and signature course to help women live whole, healed, and healthy while walking in the promises, identity, and freedom of Christ!

I help Christian women on a weight loss journey who are frustrated with failed diets and doing things the world's way to finally drop the weight by switching out quick fixes for long-term healthy habits and exchanging emotional eating for healing from the inside-out.

Tell us about yourself

I started working with women who battle emotional eating and yo-yo dieting cycles after I discovered the missing key to keeping off weight isn't what I did but how I thought about who I was! I lost over 55 pounds and finally kept it off, and now I teach others the truths and methods for lasting health from the inside out.

I was tired of pouring money into the diet industry when 95% of all diets and quick fixes fail, leaving me worse off than before. So many women struggle to feel defeated because they fail to like something's wrong with them. But nothing wrong with them. Something's wrong with the way they're told to go about it.

I am only addressing the surface issues, paying attention to weight only as it equates to worth it being shamed when the number on the scale doesn't fit in society's box. I decided to take a stand and teach what I've learned to others so they can experience transformation inside and out! Weight loss is God's way, not the world's.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've published two books, Behind Enemy Lies and the Healing and Truth Journal. I have a successful YouTube channel. I've also helped many women lose weight, keep it off and gain food freedom while realizing their true worth and identity in Christ.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The work/life balance. I want to help everyone, and since I work from home and homeschool, I can't be all for all. I must constantly return to my true north and remember why I started my coaching business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't romanticize the idea of owning a business. It's a lot of work.
  2. Get support! Hire a coach, gather a team when you can, and be realistic about your capacity.
  3. Don't allow fear or comparison any room in your dream!
