Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katelyn Parsons, Founder of Katelyn Parsons Coaching, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Life Coach and host of the podcast Body Truth. I help ambitious women feel more comfortable in their skin and also run well-being programs with companies focused on intuitive eating, body image, and mental health.

Tell us about yourself

I actually stumbled into my business by way of my own eating disorder. For most of my life, I struggled with binge eating + bulimia. When I found Health Coaching, I thought, "This is great! I'll heal myself with real food and help others!". While this might have jump-started my business, it put me down a path of orthorexia and exacerbated my binge eating behaviors. About two years into my business, I knew that I needed help and made the decision to get support to get to the root cause and begin healing my relationship with food and my body image. At the time, I was TERRIFIED it would be the end of my business and felt like a complete fraud. But in reality, this decision created an opportunity for me to shift my coaching into a different path that felt more aligned with my purpose.

Today I'm far from perfect and certainly have tough days, but I am grateful to say that I live a binge-free life and have supported many clients in similar healing journeys. When I think about what motivates me each day, it begins with flexing my creativity muscle, through which I get to empower others. I love cheering my clients and community on. I love having conversations with other incredible women in this space and learning with them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Watching my clients go through transformations. It's hard to put into words the love and excitement I feel getting to witness their personal growth journey when we work together. They're incredible.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing my nervous system. The highs and the low never makes for a dull moment, whether it's related to creativity, finance, business relationships, strategy, or something else.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Find the 2-3 marketing practices that come naturally to you, and don't worry about the rest. Focus on nurturing the community you have rather than worrying about what you WISH you had (comparison is the thief of joy). Keep your blinders on and keep moving forward- again, looking around at how everyone else is running their business or how they're being is distracting from YOUR brilliance and purpose...and it will kind of drive ya crazy.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you dream it, you can do it! And never be afraid to ask for help- whether it's a coach, fellow business colleague, or mentor...it takes a village and is so much more fun with other people.
