What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the Owner and Clinical Director of Cutting Edge Pediatric and Adult Therapy (CEPT). I am also an Occupational Therapist. We are occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, and applied behavioral analysis clinic. We specialize in individuals with special needs, spectrum-related disorders, and sensory integration dysfunction.
Tell us about yourself
When our boys were diagnosed with Autism, Joe, my partner in life and work (he also owns Cutting Edge with me), and we dove head and heart first into the Autism field. I developed an all-inclusive treatment for the boys. We were trying to find help for them, and when we couldn't find what we were looking for, we built it. The progress that we see each and every day with our clients as they improve is what motivates me each day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to create a multi-disciplinary treatment model where all treatment disciplines collaborate together for the overall benefit and improvement of the clients all in one facility.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balancing customer service and employee happiness while meeting the expectations and requirements of funding sources because this is a healthcare-based business, we're subject to our funding coming from insurance companies, who are sometimes less than sympathetic to the needs of our clients. Also, since I opened my doors in June 2013, I have yet to receive an increase in reimbursement from any funding source, which is unfortunate because it makes it extremely challenging to provide a quality service.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you're going to start a business, make sure you have a business plan set up. To run your business, you must manage your business by statistics and numbers. To grow your business, understanding how to market in your industry on social media is critical.
