Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kana Fuyuko, Founder of Kana Fuyuko's 3D Enhancement, located in Orlando, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a 3D Freelance Artist; what I do for my business is that I currently assist in repairing and enhancing 3D models (I have plans to expand the number of 3D services I provide for my clients), my customers are primarily VTubers or virtual content creators that are in need for having more expressive 3D models, or they want specific edits done to complete their 3D model's design or even converting their 3D models to certain VTuber-related programs.

Tell us about yourself

It started back in 2021 after I rebranded my brand; I was still in High School, and at first, I was doing 3D model repairs for free since I was still practicing, and that was when many of my friends started recommending that I start doing paid commissions. It took a lot of thinking, but thankfully my older sister was there to help me when it came to money since I was only 17 at the time, so I created a Google Form, and at the time, my portfolio was on Google Drive until it was transferred over to Art Station. Thanks to my friends for helping with promoting my business, I was able to get many clients, and it brings me joy seeing every VTuber I work with a smile at the model repairs I did, even if it's a small enhancement to their 3D model, I enjoy their appreciation a lot!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was that I was able to raise money in order to invest in my business. I was able to buy a motion capture suit thanks to all of the commissions as well as being able to invest in a powerful PC that allows me to continue working as a 3D artist and many more upgrades, which allows me able to expand my knowledge so that way I can be able to grow my business more as well as helping other VTubers with understanding technology and other 3D-related stuff.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing when it comes to my business is making sure that the 3D model repairs/enhancements are always just right. There are a few times when no matter the number of edits to their 3D model, it may not satisfy a customer, but not every business is perfect, so I understand and at least try to help the client figure out what is the best approach when it comes to their 3D commission.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top 3 tips that I'd give to anyone wanting to start a business today are:

  1. Set a plan and take your time on it to make sure that you are comfortable with your business and that your clients will also feel comfortable during the commission process.
  2. Make sure not to overwork yourself, set a schedule for when you work on your business, and have time to make sure that you are well-rested to continue your business.
  3. Keep notes on your business' demand; if you have a high demand of clients, then increase your prices and vice versa so that way it's fair for the amount of work you do and fair for the high-demand or low demand
Hope this helps anyone wanting to start their business, whether it's art-related or something different!
