What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help small businesses find their voice in the world of social media. I focus on taking over their Instagram account so they can focus on running their business! My goal is to make their feed aesthetically pleasing while trying to connect to their ideal audience. Instagram, after all, is a 'social' platform, and being social takes time. The time that I KNOW small business owners don't have.

Tell us about yourself

I am a creative soul who was stuck in a job that was NOT creative at all. After I had my second child, I knew I wanted to spend more time at home, so I decided I was going to figure out some way to work from home. When I was scrolling through Instagram one day, I kept thinking how much better I could make the Instagram pages of some of the local small businesses I followed.

The light bulb went off, and I called up a friend of mine who was taking over a flower shop and asked if I could run her social media for her for free for a few months to get my feet wet; the rest is history! I believe in small businesses; I mean, I am one now! And I want to help them put their best foot forward. I want to help them realize the potential there is in growing their business by having a strong social media platform.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When I get a new client, and they tell me that they were referred by 'so and so' and they LOVE what I've done with their social account... that right there is the best feeling. Having people recommend me because of the work I've done for them is my biggest accomplishment!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are SO many things that no one talks about when it comes to owning your own business. All the behind-the-scenes things that are NO FUN! Taxes, insurance, etc. But I believe the hardest thing is figuring out my worth and what to charge. There are so many times that I think I am charging WAY too much for my services. But I have to remember that I'm worth it. What I do is worth it!! And I'm good at it, so I deserve to charge accordingly!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get on Social Media - If you are a small business and you are not on social media, you are cutting off a very large portion of the population that could be interested in your services or product! And, best of all, it's free advertising!!
  2. Ask the questions. Google it, find someone who's been through it, or make that phone call. If you don't ask, you'll never know! Never be afraid to ask for help! You can try and do it alone, but there are so many people/resources out there that can make your life so much easier!
  3. Stay organized. I made the mistake of jumping into things and not keeping track of ANYTHING. It made my life a lot more difficult than it needed to be.
