What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the founder of a communication coaching business after two decades of working with attorneys in large law firms as a Chief Marketing Officer. My customers are people who have personal and professional relationships that they want to keep but do not know how to effectively communicate through conflict and other external influences such as historical trauma. I work with diverse families and individuals to promote positive communication behavior and maintain relational balance.
Tell us about yourself
As a multiple-time cancer survivor, it is not about making as much money as I can. It is about creating change for people in the way they communicate to better themselves and others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I managed to grow my small business into a maintainable business through COVID. Being new to the Seattle area, it was a different market and took tenacity (and giving away hours of time) to create a foothold for my business moving forward.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be gentle with yourself on timelines and expectations. It is truly never as it seems until you have been through it for a couple of years.
- Do not believe all vendors and sales people about what "your business needs" and pay closer attention to your gut instinct.
- Marketing and business development takes time and effort. It is fluid, much like a business website, and staying at the forefront of what is relevant in your business industry always helps.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
After spending 20+ years in corporate law firms in California, it is a welcome change to work for myself and create a sustainable and profitable work/life balance while enjoying the heck outta life!
