Tell us about yourself

I am a fourth-generation Japanese American. I was born and raised in the City of Los Angeles, CA. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California and the CEO and Co-Founder of K&B Therapy Inc. I obtained my Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, in Psychology with a minor in Asian American Studies. I then graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills, with a Master's degree in Social Work.

Over my professional career, I have served as an in-and-outpatient clinical therapist, field-based clinical supervisor at a non-profit community mental health agency, and a field instructor for graduate-level Master of Social Work students. I also mentor aspiring and current wellness providers, and I am a keynote speaker for events discussing mental health within communities of color and professional development. I am passionate about working with and advocating for Asian American Pacific Islanders (and other POC), young professionals, and college students.

I have developed a unique clinical approach based on my own life experiences, clinical training, and passion for ethnic studies. The foundation of my professional perspective is to view things from a systematic, social constructionist, and anti-oppressive perspective. My eclectic clinical approach involves utilizing: Critical Race Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Behavioral Therapy. I adopt a collaborative, tailored, and useful approach that incorporates cultural sensitivity, compassion, and humor to foster an atmosphere that fosters growth and transformation.

I have the ultimate goal to support my customers in finding the ideal harmony between achievement and fulfillment in their lives and in building a life they feel is true to themselves. Aside from working, I enjoy spending time on California's warm, sunny beaches, cooking, fishing, going to live music events, and hanging out with family and friends.
