Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ellan Hubbard, Inventor and Founder of Jyl's LLC., located in Elfers, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

A new No Show Sock that has a hook and loop design that attaches to the inside heel of the shoe so as to not be able to slip or show. With my gel logo on the bottom, gel around the edge of the socks, and a hook and loop on the heel of the sock to attach to the back heel inside the shoe, there is no way these socks are coming off.

Tell us about yourself

I have been working in the marketing industry for over 30 years, so I wear a lot of pumps and flats to work. I was in the grocery store one day, and as I was walking down the aisle, I could feel my sock start to slip under my foot. Ugh, not again! Imagine, I then stood there hanging on to my cart for a couple of minutes, trying to balance and take my shoe off to slip my sock back on. It kept happening. I'm sure this has happened to a lot of women, so I went home and did a crafting hour. I cut up all kinds of socks, and that is when I finally came up with the idea and the product that you see here before you today. I get motivated by family, friends, and feedback from customers that are so happy I came up with this idea.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It has taken me over three years to get Jyl's No Show Socks made, but well worth the effort. I spent many late nights working a full-time job, but I was able to get them made and submit a patent; I was just informed that my patent had been approved, and I am currently waiting for my patent number to come in the mail; very excited and can't wait!!!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding time to do everything and keeping motivated and positive. Some days you wonder where the sales are and have to come back to the drawing board and come up with new ideas. This is exciting and motivating but, at times, exhausting. Luckily, my family has helped a lot!!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. There are times you become frustrated and feel like things are not moving along. Have patience, don't give up, and keep moving forward. You can do this!!
  2. Accept help from others.
  3. Let everyone see your passion and excitement when talking about your product or service.
