Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jill Foster, Founder of Jyllin Holistic Liberation, located in Essaouira, Morocco.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach multiple forms of yoga, give different kinds of massage, offer habit and holistic health coaching, and provide EFT-Tapping sessions. I also have a background in teaching various forms of dance, with modern dance and movement improvisation as my favorites.

I offer these services separately and bring them all together in the six-month online Holistic Liberation Program for women who want to thrive with their health and free themselves of deeply engrained chronic stress patterns gathered from past generations, this lifetime, and our society at large. This work requires rebels seeking true liberation that is discovered on the path of deep inner work.

Tell us about yourself

I first envisioned working holistically one-on-one when I was in a holistic health coaching program in 2003-2004, but life led me to study dance and writing and teach both, all before living and teaching yoga internationally.

It wasn’t until my second massage course that I knew I wanted to work one-on-one combining yoga and massage, yet I continued teaching for studios as I’d been doing for years because it was familiar, and being self-employed scared me at the time!

When I felt a strong pull to live in Morocco, I knew it was my final call to work for myself, which allows me to offer my services separately, combine them in different ways, and share my most comprehensive lifestyle program that addresses and supports vital aspects of holistic transformation, which is my online Holistic Liberation Program.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is simply walking this path at all! To have the courage to pave my own path and trust the unfolding as I go, taking leaps into running an online business while staying true to my longing to work in-person, for intensive one-on-one work as well as group work and community classes.

I’ve always longed to have multi-faceted work that flows in variation in skill set, focus, and schedule but is grounded enough to feel stable. Being self-employed gives me this while teaching me how to feel secure amidst the unknown.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I’ve had to learn how to remain true to myself in the face of social norms, others’ expectations, unsolicited (but well-intentioned) advice, and most importantly, my own past conditioning. This requires a commitment to continued self-inquiry, belief awareness and transformation, humility, flexibility, and impassioned learning.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I’m an intuitive, so I’m not one for starting a business just to make money. If that’s all you’re out to do, then why not just get a job? But if you’re called to create something that only you can create, in ways that only you can create it, then the world needs you to do that—that IS your call! In that case:

  1. Meditate, ground into your body, and develop your internal listening skills daily. Otherwise, it’s too easy to get caught in endless thinking and over-analysis that kills action and its momentum.
  2. Cleanse, clear, and care for your mind and body daily. If your body is run down, you’ll lack energy (or run on fumes and risk burnout), you won’t think as clearly, and your confidence will suffer. You need all of these things to be efficient, effective, and bold in your business!
  3. Make sure that your dreams and visions are actually yours and stay true to them. Doing this is easier if you adhere to numbers one and two above. 😉
