What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Treat Me Sweet Cookies, and my customers are truly anyone who loves cookies. Some are coming in for one or a dozen of our amazing stuffed cookies. A parent or loved one putting on a special event and wanting a unique favor in the form of a custom sugar cookie. Anyone needing a special gift for thank you, congratulations, holiday gifts, and more. Individuals in the corporate world looking for the perfect favor or giveaway at an event and or product launch.
Tell us about yourself
My love of art started when I was really young; I was constantly drawing, painting, and creating! 13 years ago, I decided to take some cake decorating classes, which launched me into the passion I have today! I was able to marry my love of art and baking into the sweetest career possible! I love the thrill of being creative and coming up with new concepts and designs nobody else has experienced before! That wow factor is huge for me, and I love seeing how happy everyone is when they come into the store and see everything for the first time or see their order for the first time!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment would be getting my home-based baking business out of the home and into a brick-and-mortar location in Ridgewood! Moving into the property until the grand opening was only 3 weeks, and we pulled it off! That is a huge accomplishment I'm very proud of!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The balance with children. With previously being out of my house, I had a lot more flexibility with my children. It's been quite a life shift with mom "going back to work," but they've been great; they even come in and help in the shop whenever they can.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Think outside the box, and don't get caught up doing things the same way all the time.
- Have a plan and know where your money is going. Do not overspend.
- Get involved in the community and promote yourself!
