Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Annika Kahn, founder of Jungshin Fitness, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Jungshin Fitness® is the 21st Century Sword Athlete experience integrating the ancient wisdom of martial arts with modern conditioning techniques. The movements are choreographed, implementing a unique tool: the sword. Used as an extension of the body, the sword builds core engagement, mental focus, flexibility, and overall health, helping the modern human focus the mind, leaving her, him, them, empowered and revitalized.

Tell us about yourself

I am the creator of Jungshin Fitness®, a sword-focused fitness workout based upon multi-directional momentum training. I am an international presenter and have an extensive background in athletic conditioning and sports performance. My training in the Korean Martial Art of Kuk Sool Won has awarded me four world grand champions and the rank of third-degree black belt. I lead Instructor Training Programs worldwide.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making it all the way up to the last step in Shark Tank and, more so, creating a way for everyone to give back to some really great organizations that help others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying organized, aligning with your vision, creating goals that support your vision and actions that support your goals, and always listening to the guidance of your higher self and close colleagues and mentors. And then taking what you need and leaving the rest.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Decide if it is a hobby or a business.
  2. Know the difference between proof of concept vs. proof of delivery.
  3. Get some really great mentors in your closest circle.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I did not start Jungshin Fitness as a "business owner." I started it as a martial artist, athlete, and mom. Doing something that healed my body and I loved to do eventually drew me into realms where I had to step up as a female business owner and learn what this entailed, and my vision has always guided the entire process. There is hard work vs. effort. When something is effortless and requires hard work, you know you are on the right path!
