Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Parker, Founder, and CEO of Beautiful You Coaching Academy, located in Warragul, VIC, Australia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the Founder of The Beautiful You Coaching Academy. We train heart-centred people from around the world (2200 and counting!) to become life coaches. People who are attracted to our type of coach training - which is very heart lead, feelings-based, and spiritually open - are more often than not already doing elements of coaching in their lives. We help them take their natural talent for supporting people and expand it into an incredible skill and the creation of a coaching business.

Tell us about yourself

I transitioned into being a life and business coach myself after being a social worker and psychotherapist for many years. My wait list for personal coaching eventually became so long that the number of coaches coming to me for support and to grow their business inspired me with the idea to start a training for them - and the Beautiful You Coaching Academy was born. That was nearly nine years ago now, and we are going strong with an incredible community of coaches all over the world. Seeing the difference they are making in the world is the main driver of my motivation every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Owning my own business in the personal development and coaching industry for twenty-five years. I am incredibly proud of the work my business has created in the world and how long-lasting we are, including employing and contracting people from all over the world.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Sometimes it can be hard to switch off. When you are entirely responsible for your own income generation as well as the needs of employees and contractors, it can cause you concern with your desire to want everything to continue well. Keeping perspective, celebrating all wins, and taking amazing care of my health, I found them to be deeply important.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't start a business just as a way to make money. Get really clear about how your business will be an extension of your soul essence, gifts, and the living legacy you're trying to create.
  2. Don't do it alone. Even if you are a solopreneur, seek out like-minded fellow business owners to connect with and get support from - and in turn, that you can offer support to as well. It will make a huge difference in both the up and down times.
  3. Deeply commit to the craft, skill, and professionalism of whatever it is you do in your business. All the marketing and promotion in the world won't mean a great deal if you're not great at what you do.
