Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Wood, a family constellations facilitator and transformational coach based in Taos, NM, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I facilitate ancestral healing using a modality called Family Constellations. Most of us believe our problems start with us, but the truth is they often result from entanglements and hidden patterns within our family. When we bring these hidden dynamics into conscious awareness, we create healing, resolution, and a newfound sense of freedom.

I work with people in workshops and one-on-one. My clients come to me with an unwanted pattern, behavior, or issue that they haven’t been able to resolve. They’re open to exploring the relationships, entanglements, and connections within their family system.

Tell us about yourself

After graduating from Princeton in 1992, I stumbled into a career in advertising, which I thought was a short-term thing. I was a Managing Director of a big NYC ad agency when I realized 18 years had gone by and I wasn’t remotely passionate about my work. I ditched my life in NYC, took off with my boyfriend in a 2-door Jeep Wrangler with a rooftop tent, and we spent five years driving around the world through 69 countries.

I realized that none of the “stuff” matters. That people are essentially the same in their hearts all over the world. And I got in touch with my gifts as a healer, working with a number of medicine women and men. I’m deeply grateful that I get to do work that I love each day. What motivates me is a desire to see other people thrive! I believe it’s our birthright to live from the heart, shine bright and share our gifts in the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, it’s the little accomplishments each day. Seeing the shifts in the people I help. Knowing I’ve made a difference for them, their ancestors, and their descendants. I love receiving emails from people telling me things like: “This work has genuinely and profoundly changed my life. I’ve gotten to reclaim back so much of myself.”

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a solopreneur can be lonely. I’ve discovered how much community matters. We can all learn from each other and support each other - and that makes a huge difference.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

These are daily habits that have helped me a lot:

  1. Attract success. Celebrate what you’ve accomplished and visualize where you want to go with a feeling of gratitude and optimism.
  2. Before making big decisions, connect to the truth within your heart and take action from there.
  3. Do what lights you up! That’s what you’re here to share with the rest of us.
