Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Bonasso of Julie Bonasso Coaching, based in Madison, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the CEO and founder of Julie Bonasso Coaching. My team and I are on a mission to define the new paradigm of female leadership.

Currently, women are working in businesses that have been built by white men, and they are starting to wake up to the fact that this is not sustainable. They have lost their joy and their health, and the money they are making isn't worth the sacrifices they are enduring.

Our clients are female executives who are interested in learning a new way of working and leading. One that is fueled by impact, purpose, and fierce congruence without having to give up income, ambition, or family relationships.

Tell us about yourself

As a former corporate lawyer, I was running the proverbial rat race. I was working myself into an early grave and ignoring my calling that I was meant for a better, different life.

When I left law and moved into executive recruiting, I began to hear from other women who were experiencing similar challenges but were afraid to speak up. It was at this moment that I decided to make it my mission to help women find the courage and develop the plan to take back what they have allowed others to control.

My daily motivation is to help more women create a new life fueled by their calling so that they can experience more joy, better health, deeper impact, and build real wealth in the process.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments is providing executive women with a proven framework for freedom steeped in authentic leadership. I help guide women out of what feels like a 'prison they are trapped in' to place that feels transcendent.

Those who have gone through our programs see a seismic shift not only in their own lives but the ripple effect that these changes have on their work culture, their families, and their community. I am humbled on a daily basis to be their guide.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It can be lonely! To combat this, I'm part of a regular group of other women business owners. I schedule fun in-person meetings with leaders in my community to connect about life, work and relationships. I take breaks with the people I love to do the things I love - like hiking, paddling, and biking.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take Aligned Action Quickly. Don't be busy for busy-ness sake. As you make decisions in your business, ask whether each action is aligned with your vision and values, and take that action efficiently.
  2. Don't Judge Yourself. Judgment of self doesn't solve anything. Love yourself. Learn from it. Move on.
  3. Surround Yourself. Hire a coach. Join a mastermind. Be part of a group of other entrepreneurs so you can have accountability, learn from one another and build community.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

As women, we've been taught to ignore our gut instinct or intuition and rely solely on our logical minds. Our inner wisdom is our superpower. Slow down, get quiet and tap into that quiet voice inside. What is telling you to do? ACT ON THAT.

In the past, each time I ignored what my inner voice was telling me and relied solely on my rational mind, I made massive errors in my work or relationships that took me down a dark path.

Once I started listening to and acting on it, my intuition, my life, my health, and my money completely transformed. I found peace and joy that I had not previously experienced. This can be true for each and every one of us.
