Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julia Blair, Owner of Julia Blair Floral Design, located in Athens, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m a wedding/event florist! I cater to those planning their wedding or a significant event and want to add modern, whimsical florals to their aesthetic.

Tell us about yourself

I first started out doing small weddings for family friends. However, word of mouth and social media caused my business to pick up, and now I’m able to do what I love full-time!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment would be doing my first wedding, where the bride said she completely trusted me and allowed me to choose the product and colors and do my style completely!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most difficult things for me is talking to clients about the cost of flowers. Many people are uneducated on just how expensive florals cost, and it can be awkward when what they want costs thousands more than they were expecting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Use social media - it’s free advertising.
  2. Make friends with others in your industry - it can be a lifesaver.
  3. Stay true to your style. That way, people will keep coming to you for what’s unique to you!
