Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Judy Foxx, Owner of Judy Foxx Art, located in Madison, WV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an artist and retired art teacher. Customers are art students.

Tell us about yourself

After 25 years of teaching art to all ages in public schools, I retired and opened my own studio. I occasionally give art lessons, offer paint parties to help pay the rent on my studio, and give back to the community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to have my own studio and set my own hours for my creative accomplishments as well as to serve my community by providing occasional art lessons or parties. We have NO art teachers in any of our elementary schools in Boone County!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being disciplined enough to go to the studio every week and spending so much time on social media promoting my art. Also, traveling to galleries for various shows is tiring at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Begin at home if you are able. Once you can sell enough products to break even, move to a location outside your home and separate home life and family from business life.
