Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in music education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Juan Antonio, Guitarist, and Creator, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Juan Antonio Music; we create music education content for intermediate to advanced guitarists. This includes free tutorials on Instagram and YouTube, video courses, books, and online lessons.

Tell us about yourself

I started creating content online a while ago as a way to promote my business; it has kept growing ever since. My motivation is the love that I have for anything music and content creation, from coming up with ideas, music tracks, and lessons to taping, colorizing, and editing. I love each part of the creation process as it provides a fresh canvas of creation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Meeting and working with some of my childhood heroes. Making it my full-time work. It's not always easy and fun, and it comes with certain sacrifices, but I am definitely lucky to be doing what I love full-time.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The uncertainty. The hardest bit about it all is definitely the ups and downs that come with depending on your business. I've been lucky enough to have multiple income streams that seem to always compensate for each other.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pick something that you absolutely love; doing this is a must for me if I want to be disciplined.
  2. Being consistent it's the key to getting better at anything that you do.
  3. Believe in yourself even when most people don't. I run an online business and specialize in a very niche market. This market is not too big where I live, and the people that surround me tend not to understand what I do and why I do it fully. So support tends to come from different areas of the globe thanks to the internet. It's hard at times not to have a ton of people that relate to what you do, so you have to be your biggest supporter.
