Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joyce Marter, Founder of Joyce Marter Enterprises, Inc., located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business provides mental health and financial health keynote presentations and training for corporations, conferences, continuing education, and more. I also offer digital courses, coaching, and consultation for personal, business, and financial development. My passion is to promote mental health awareness and support individuals and businesses in cultivating an abundance.

Tell us about yourself

As a licensed psychotherapist for 25 years, I love supporting people and organizations in mental and financial wellness. I love sharing what I've learned through public speaking, writing, coaching, and consulting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I successfully founded, built, and sold Urban Balance, a national outpatient mental health company. I started it with $500 and $50K in loans and have been able to successfully sell the company for a multimillion-dollar exit. More importantly, my dream of making therapy accessible and affordable has come to fruition.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The financial responsibility of managing cash flow and the needs of clients and staff was one of the greatest challenges I've had as a business owner. I regret not seeking business or financial consultation sooner because of shame and fear. This cost me a tremendous amount, both financially and emotionally. Once I sought the support of others, my business became prosperous and successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Look for a win-win-win, and the universe will support your business. Make sure the business model benefits you, your staff, and your clients or customers.
  2. Aim high. Blow the ceilings off of self-limited thinking and dream big.
  3. Access support. Invest in coaching, training, and mentoring to help you achieve your business goals.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you are interested in creating a more prosperous life, check out my book, The Financial Mindset Fix: A Mental Fitness Program for an Abundant Life. I'm also offering a new digital course that will help you leverage the psychology of money and cultivate greater success, personally and professionally.
