Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Matt Raekelboom, Founder of Journey2ADHD, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business was created to assist those on their Journey of understanding their ADHD through resources, coaching, community, events, and products, all curated with the goal of a better life for those who join!

Tell us about yourself

I am a content creator with over 500,000 followers across every social platform. This all started with going on my own Journey that, once understood, led me to losing 80lbs, becoming sober, and living the best version of my life I ever have. I specialize my content by relating ADHD understanding with my knowledge of Human Behaviour, NeuroBiology, and Positive Psychology. The thing that motivates me the most is seeing the millions of people I have helped across the world understand their brains better because of what I am constantly building. When I was younger, I didn't have outlets to learn, and it made life through school, friendship, and accomplishing day-to-day tasks very difficult. While I cannot dread on the past, I am a big fan of inspiring other people's futures, which is why I wanted to build something so meaningful!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To this day, Journey2ADHD has never had $1 in debt, and we have grown consistently for over a year and a half!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Oh god, the accountability that I don't have anyone to be accountable with! The freedom is fantastic but also can be a major curse, especially while running such high-traffic social platforms and trying to be a human being outside of my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you start with your passion in mind, then the money will come...if you start with money in mind, you will demotivate yourself no matter the success.
  2. Failing a project teaches SUCH good lessons, and you need to remember that and be open to failure.
  3. HEALTH BEFORE BUSINESS. If you are sick or your nutrition sucks, there is no one to pick up your slack in the begging. General health needs to be a part of the business model, especially in the small stages.
