What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Journey Beyond Betrayal is an online membership community for women who have experienced a husband being unfaithful, regardless of current marital status. The community exists to ENCOURAGE, EDUCATE, EQUIP, and EMPOWER women as they walk through the pain of infidelity and find healing. A woman who joins the Journey Beyond Betrayal community will be equipped and educated to take control of her own healing, encouraged to keep moving through the process, and empowered to know her value and worth as she rebuilds self-confidence. And she will do this alongside women who “get it.”
Currently members have access to weekly online group meetings, an online book group, a private, confidential members-only discussion forum (via an app and website), a video course (with more coming soon!), and a monthly Q&A with experts in various topics related to infidelity (boundaries, grief, self-worth, etc.).
Tell us about yourself
I launched the Journey Beyond Betrayal from my own story of overcoming the pain of infidelity five years into marriage. Using my darkest moments to help others is something I believe God asks all of us to do, and I have never shied away from using this experience for the benefit of others. Now 10+ years after the worst day of my life, I am passionate about making sure nobody has to walk through this heartache without support. Too many women navigate infidelity alone and therefore don’t understand what is normal and how to work through the trauma and grief. I created the Journey Beyond Betrayal to serve and support the millions of women who will experience the pain of an unfaithful husband but don’t want to stay stuck in it forever.
Because my husband and I each pursued our own healing, we have now been married for over 15 years. While not every woman gets the choice I did about pursuing the healing of her marriage, all women have the choice to pursue putting the pieces of her heart back together again. I am passionate about helping women overcome shame, build confidence, and believe the truth that we all have something valuable to offer the world. That’s what motivates me to get up and keep working at this every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is helping each woman who is hurting experience a positive transformation through her pain.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a solopreneur just starting out means doing everything yourself. I had to learn how to do the things nobody thinks about or sees from the outside, things I did not want to learn, and things I hope to one day be able to afford to pass off to someone else….setting up and managing a website, connecting the backend pieces of all the online, creating all the graphics, managing the social media platforms. There’s all that, plus the regular pieces of running your business, like meeting with members, responding to emails/calls, etc. In the beginning, you are learning so much, and whenever you do something new, everything takes way longer than you think and definitely longer than you want to be spending on it!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with others who will support you, encourage you, and challenge you. You will need all three at different times.
- Know your why—Have s strong reason to do what you’re doing that will motivate you to keep doing what you’re doing even when it’s difficult.
- Understand that this will be hard, and no matter how hard you try, you will still make mistakes. It’s okay to do things messy. You learn from giving it your best and then making it better the next time. There will be times you want to give up, and that’s when you go back to tips number one and two. 😊
