Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Peters, founder of X-Factor Hypnosis, located in Edina, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help entrepreneurs, business owners, and ambitious professionals go from anxiety to action using a variety of neuroscience-based techniques I call the Take Action Formula. My business is X-Factor Hypnosis.

Tell us about yourself

I spent years stuck in a life that I didn't want but thought I had to have. When I finally realized that I could live however I wanted, I began to make changes. It was slow. It was hard. But eventually, after about ten years, I felt pretty good about my life.

I started this business because I realized that if I could help other people get unstuck faster than it took me and make a good living as well, that would be the most empowering way I could live my life. I love to help others find their own internal strength, and I love everything about running a business, from marketing to client work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I could say the hundreds of clients I've helped or the many people I've mentored, but my biggest accomplishment has been supporting my family to live the lives they want. I love the freedom owning a business gives me. To travel and see my kids and grandkids when I wanted.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As business owners, we often try to do everything in the business. At one point, that is necessary, but as the business grows, we become the bottleneck. The hardest thing about being a business owner is navigating that process and learning to let go that someone else might be better at doing what you're currently doing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Begin - You can't get anywhere unless you start. It doesn't matter where you start; just get started. You can adjust and change as you go, but the biggest thing I see get in the way of people is trying to have it all perfect before they even start. Those are the ones who never get going.
  2. Don't be afraid to fail - Again, fear can keep you from even trying something. But fear isn't even real. FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real. Embrace failure. That's how we learn and grow.
  3. Persistence - The one thing that has added to my success is the fact that I keep going. I don't give up. I didn't give up when I was stuck years ago, and I don't give up when I feel overwhelmed by everything happening. Most people quit when they are 80% of the way to success. Keep the course, and you will see results.
