What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide bespoke menus curated for each customer. Travel to a place of their choosing, most commonly a home, and cook for them. I bring all of the equipment and ingredients, serve on the customer's tableware, clean the kitchen, and do the dishes before I leave. There are times that customers wish to cook along and get involved, which is encouraged.
Tell us about yourself
A few years ago, my fiance and I were at a friend's house having dinner. We all cooked along and thought how wonderful this type of service is. The next day my fiance, Sheena, encouraged me to pursue this idea. I had most of the equipment needed and started posting on a gig service to help.
I'm motivated by making people feel joy. It's an amazing feeling to have someone experience something you created, and it changes their mood. You can see the fulfillment in their eyes, and that is an intoxicating feeling.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have cooked for NBA stars, celebrities, and those behind the scenes you never knew existed. I have met some fascinating people and a few friends in the process.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Slow seasons, at some points in the year, it can be completely dead. The only answer to that is hustle. Never stop hustling.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
