Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jon Hansen, Founder of Hansen Coaching & Consulting, located in Navin, MB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a coaching and speaking business that helps people to become more self-confident and resilient. I work with students, teachers, and parents to provide them with the tools they need to overcome self-doubt and insecurity. My passion is helping people to set and accomplish their biggest goals and dreams. I believe that everyone has the potential to be successful, but sometimes we need a little help getting there.

Tell us about yourself

As a teacher, I saw firsthand how much teenagers and youth struggle with insecurity and self-confidence. I knew I had a message that could inspire people to chase their own greatness - they just needed the tools to believe in themselves. So, I got started as a speaker and coach. My goal is to empower people of all ages to live their best lives. I've been fortunate to see the impact my work can have on people's lives. It's an honor and a privilege to be able to share my message with others and help them achieve their potential. I'm passionate about helping people believe in themselves and chase their dreams. That's what drives me to continue doing what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, there's no greater feeling than hearing from a former student or client years later and learning that I made a positive difference in their life. Whether it's a message of thanks for always being there or an update on their latest accomplishments, these messages are a reminder that my work is not in vain. It's also a powerful motivator to keep doing what I do, even on the days when it feels like I'm not making a difference. Also, having 1.3 million followers on TikTok is truly humbling as well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's probably imposter syndrome. I coach and teach others how to manage self-doubt, and when that very thing creeps into my own thoughts, I become insecure and wonder if I am the right person to be doing this. It is a constant battle to keep the negative voices at bay, and some days I feel like I am barely winning.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are incredibly passionate about the outcome you are giving your customers. Passion and discipline will serve you on the days when you feel like you're not going to make it.
  2. Take action and learn from every mistake and success. Don't wait for the perfect conditions to start.
  3. Be patient, and don't compare your successes or failure to anyone. Find pride in your own journey.
