What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a private investigator and safety consultant. My customers range from very large insurance underwriters to mom-and-pop business owners looking for information.
Tell us about yourself
I am a former police officer who specializes in investigations. However, growing up on a farm and ranch operation, I've always been connected to heavy industry, often helping on construction projects as side work. This experience allowed me to add safety consulting into my repertoire when I left law enforcement. Now I focus on investigating when things go wrong and helping to find meaningful corrective actions.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having helped companies for over 15 years keeping their employees safe and secure.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Doing it all. As a small business owner, you find yourself doing all of the business functions. Everything from AR/AP or sales and marketing to, in my case, doing the investigations and consulting that "is" the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a plan. I don't just mean a pretty piece of paper. I mean a well-thought-out plan of how you and your business will function, complete with goals and budgets. And DON'T GET DISCOURAGED if things move slower than you thought they would. Success takes time and commitment.
