Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joanna Mason, Founder of Joanna-Kate Coaching, located in Lindal, Cumbria, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a Confidence Coach, I assist teens, and young adults redefine their self-images and re-framing their self-talk, which allows them to communicate better and prioritize their lives. Also, professionally trained in the Guided Meditation Framework, a system that uses neurochemistry and combines the benefits of meditation, visualization, and coaching.

I have over twenty-one successful years as an educator and trainer that I bring to my practice. I exercise these skills to support professionals and students in large corporations and educational establishments, in addition to my one-on-one work with my clients. I have been featured in Authority Magazine as well.

I live on the outskirts of the UK's beautiful Lake District with my husband, two teenagers, and a Cavapoochon.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 23 years as an educator and became frustrated with a system that did not serve as I felt it should. So I looked for a way to serve others, opened a Yoga studio, and began training Yoga teachers until COVID arrived. It soon became apparent that keeping the studio open was not viable. I had already begun to train as a coach, and this gave me the impetus to pivot my business to move into this field. I'm so glad I did, as I love what I do and am now developing a program to help teens and young people too! It's true that adversity brings opportunity!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surviving a global pandemic, being featured in the media, becoming a Co-author (the book will be published next month), and expanding my business to include teens and young adults.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest things are often the best things. Making all the decisions can be difficult, but ultimately it's the reason why most of us become entrepreneurs! Sometimes it can feel like you are working alone, but that's why masterminds and networking are so important.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself and the process.
  2. We live in a friendly universe; it's designed to work with you.
  3. If doing it feels scary, imagine how it will feel to get to the end of your life without trying.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Everything in life comes down to the relationship we have with ourselves. We complicate everything with our thoughts and beliefs, but when we take all of that away (Law of Subtraction), we can see that we really do have the answers and have done all along.
