Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jinelle Reynolds, Founder of For the Love of Children Consulting, located in Hampton, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a coparenting consultant. I provide coparenting guidance and assistance, location-finding services, court documentation assistance services, and more.

My customers are parents and family members dealing with difficult coparenting situations or custody court issues. I have parents who have had trouble with parental alienation, and I've had parents who have great coparenting relationships but just like to touch base for any doubts or concerns they have.

Tell us about yourself

I am a stepmom myself and having dealt with our own personal custody issues, I realized there is a significant gap between parents and family members in custody situations. Many of the resources currently available are expensive, encourage litigation, have a focus on the parents, and come with a "One size fits all" method; when with families, that is not the case. Every family is unique and deserves resources that suit their needs. After I realized this, I joined a global parenting organization, attended school, and made it my goal to gain as much education as possible to help other parents and children.

My daily motivation continues to be the impact I am making and seeing happening within the community. I can see the changes within the family, the family becomes happier, and the children benefit the most!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far is getting to where I am now. We recently celebrated the 1st anniversary of our business. Coparenting and custody situations are touchy subjects, and no one likes someone telling them what to do. The fact that I have been able to get in touch with so many people and even be referred to others is great, and it allows me to continue helping families!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I believe one of the hardest things is to get people to understand you are not out there just trying to make a buck. So many businesses start for the sole purpose of gaining monetary profits, and many of those businesses target vulnerable groups of people.

My goal is to improve family and children's relationships and to let parents know that coparenting doesn't have to be difficult. It doesn't have to affect the children, and not for the monetary profits but for the betterment of our families, children, and societies.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would recommend if you are starting a business, plan it out. Write down every single website you can use for marketing and advertisement. Set out your main business goals and steps to accomplish them.

Get your knowledge out there, and don't be afraid to just talk about your business to others. Your best marketing strategy will be word of mouth, so be proud of what you do and mention it!

Lastly, don't give up! Starting and growing a business takes work. It won't just happen overnight, and you will probably feel like giving up at least once. Don't! When you most feel like giving up is when you're almost to your goal! It just starts with one client/customer/referral.
