Empowering Canadians to Achieve Financial Goals - Jim Pan

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in finance but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jim Pan, Financial Consultant of RightFit Advisors, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We empower millennials with a growth mindset with financial literacy and help them match to an independent financial advisor who is the right fit for them.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up in Canada, I've witnessed many financial mistakes my immigrant parents have made. These mistakes can be avoided with proper guidance and understanding of the Canadian financial system and rules. I believe this applies not only to immigrants but to many Canadians who are new to finance. With the biggest intergenerational wealth transfer happening in the next 20 years, we see millennials today as a group of individuals as an important gatekeepers to the next generation of finances. If they can manage these finances well with proper financial literacy and guidance, this wealth can be passed on for generations to come. This motivates me everyday!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the light on people's faces when they understand about money. The liberation they feel. I am excited to be able to expand this using digital technology and impact more people.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being comfortable with uncertainties. Many individuals who are building towards financial stability will understand the challenges of having uncertainties. As a business owner, you really need to embrace that and learn to plan for surprises.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a mentor who understands what you are trying to build and can either help you or connect you to someone who can help you accelerate your process.
  2. Make sure you are super clear about who you want to help and your message to them.
  3. Ensure you are aware of the financial side of your business, like where you get and obtain credit, and find the right financial team, such as accountants, bankers, and business advisors, to help you grow and avoid early financial mistakes in business.
