Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Nargi, co-founder of Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre - Toronto, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre is a physiotherapy practice specializing in pelvic care located in downtown Toronto. Our team has extensive experience in treating individuals suffering from pelvic pain, incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse, among other issues. We also offer comprehensive care to women during pregnancy and their post-partum period, men pre and post-prostatectomy, and other surgical care.

Pelvic pain is a complex problem. The pelvic area is where we often hold our stress and tension. Anxiety and our thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs can perpetuate pain in the area. By helping you understand how your pain system works, we can reduce the threat of ongoing pelvic issues. To achieve this goal, our team uses a comprehensive biopsychosocial framework to evaluate and treat your concerns.

At Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre, we provide first-line defence against pelvic floor dysfunction. We understand that all individuals have unique needs. We will conduct both subjective and objective evaluations to develop personalized treatment plans to help you meet your goals. We take great pride in collaborating with other health care providers to ensure patient-focused care. Ultimately, our goal is to help return your pelvic health to its optimal state and to allow you to live well again.

Tell us about yourself

I graduated with a Master of Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto in 2008 and a Bachelor of Kinesiology Honours degree from the University of Western Ontario in 2006. In 2018 my partners, Lauren Campbell, Nelly Faghani, and I made our dreams come true; we opened up Advanced Pelvic Physiotherapy Centre.

I found my passion in treating pelvic floor dysfunction in 2012 after treating in orthopedics for four years. Considering the prevalent incidence of low back pain worldwide and the associated pelvic floor sensitivity (often not recognized), I found my passion in this area. Combined with orthopedic skills and advanced pelvic health training, I am committed to treating individuals who suffer from pelvic pain, low back pain, urogenital dysfunctions, anorectal dysfunction, and pelvic girdle pain. My approach to treatment is to help others relearn how to live well, stay well and be well through persistence, patience, and perseverance.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Developing a clinic that focuses on ‘patient-centered care’ with a team of like-minded clinicians who focus on the whole person. Bringing an amazing group of individuals who share the same passion under one roof.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Remember to take care of yourself. Prioritizing the clinic/ business over all else can easily (and does) happen.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build a team you trust.
  2. Build a professional vision but don't forget your personal one.
  3. Be patient.
