What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a dance academy in west Houston that teaches dance to all ages.

Tell us about yourself

I always wanted to be a dance teacher with my own studio. I finally realized my dream in 2018 when I opened MoveNation Dance Academy. I absolutely love what I do and feel privileged to be able to do what I love every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the capacity to handle change and uncertainty with grace and fortitude. I have encountered many opportunities for solutions as a business owner and always find the path forward to success.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Dedicating yourself to your business means that sometimes other areas of your life are sacrificed. Being able to maintain healthy personal life relationships, lifestyle, and responsibilities in addition to growing a successful business is the biggest challenge for an entrepreneur.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Make sure that you have a Business Plan laid out ahead of starting the business, but don't be afraid to take risks and jump all in ahead of what your plan states. Be able to replicate yourself. You do not need to do everything. Find others who you can groom to take over some areas of responsibility. Be prepared to sacrifice your time, relationships, security, and at sometimes peace of mind in the beginning.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If there is a fire in you to do something, find a way to make it happen, that is what you were meant to do. It may take many years, but if you believe and maintain focus, you can achieve.
