Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Jakobsen, a business therapist and certified life coach based in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help female business owners slay self-doubt so they can show up with the kind of authenticity that attracts paying clients over and over again.

Tell us about yourself

I have wanted to help women for as long as I can remember, and I decided in high school that I wanted to be a therapist. I got my Master's in clinical social work and, after working as a therapist for many years, decided I loved the forward focus of life coaching. I became certified as a life coach about six years ago and knew that was my calling. When I first started my business, I didn't realize how hard it would be. I was great at helping people but not so great at the business side of things. I realized that having a business brings up all of your inner blocks and limiting beliefs, so after learning how to navigate these myself, I decided that I wanted to help other women do the same.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Sticking with it through all of the ups and downs. Staying consistent and getting out of my comfort zone over and over again.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's a roller coaster ride. You question everything, and as a solopreneur, it can feel very lonely.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. There will never be a perfect time because perfect does not exist. You will fail many times in the beginning, but this is normal and great information for what next step to take.
  2. Get out of your comfort zone. You will not achieve the business of your dreams by playing it safe.
  3. Get help from someone who is invested in your success. Getting a coach or mentor to help you will make things go so much smoother, and having another person in your corner is priceless.
