What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a professional speaker, empowerment coach, self-defense expert, and author. I mostly work with professional women to help them feel more strong, safe, and more powerful from the streets to the boardroom.
Tell us about yourself
My background started in martial arts back in 2000. I became hooked on mind, body, and spirit strengthening and began to create a career to help others feel the same. I turned my self-defense coaching into a full-blown keynote speaker profession. I am constantly motivated by the need for women (especially) to need to feel safe in a world that often doesn't feel so safe.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having my book, The Art of Badassery: Unleash Your Mojo With Wisdom of the Dojo, published this year has been my greatest accomplishment. It was a long, challenging process, and I'm so excited to share it with the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, working mostly by myself. I've been a solopreneur for two decades, and it can really get lonely. I can't rely on friends and family to listen to my business issues constantly. Over the years, I have found great communities where I have been able to get the support I need.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find someone who has done what you'd like to do and learn from them.
- Invest in your personal growth. It takes determination, perseverance, and patience to run a successful business with longevity. You will need to work on mindset and limiting beliefs on an ongoing basis.
- If you're not good at managing finances, make sure to get help. Most businesses have cycles, and you need to plan for the lean times.
