Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenn Messina, a Registered Dietitian and Wellness Coach, based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Registered Dietitian, and I work primarily with women looking to heal their relationship with food and their bodies. I work with parents who are struggling with picky eaters!
Tell us about yourself
I always knew I wanted to be a registered dietitian. I love science, biology, and of course, food. I had an amazing guest speaker in high school who talked about the role of dietitians, and I was hooked. I am motivated to do what I do because I have seen the difficult relationship so many have with food and their bodies and that intuitive eating can help move them towards healing.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is building a thriving online practice over the past three years through a global pandemic!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I feel like there is always more to do. When you work for yourself, there is never a day off!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be true to your own beliefs and vocal about your opinion. You will find a community that resonates with your message and shares a similar viewpoint.
- Don't expect clients to come to you. Find online forums (I used the Facebook moms groups in my community) and share your knowledge & tips. From there, you can discuss your services with those that like your message.
- Get online. Get a professional website, blog, Instagram, and even Tiktok. Potential clients will research you online first.
