Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in branding and marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeníca Ganem, Business Development & Creative Director of J&Co., located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business consultant that helps entrepreneurs claim their authority authentically, wholeheartedly, and confidently. All my clients share the common goal of building a successful and fulfilling business based on their strengths that feels good to their nervous system.

Tell us about yourself

As a third-generation entrepreneur, I am well aware of the transformative impact entrepreneurship can have on one's life and the lasting legacy. I've seen firsthand the sacrifice and resilience it takes to receive these opportunities. I love helping my clients identify and address the underlying beliefs, experiences, and emotional drivers that can hold them back from reaching their full potential.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Watching my clients' lives change based on their work and the rippling effect it has on their families and communities. Working with Vicent from Makoye Safaris has been one of the sweetest experiences, as everything he does is for his community. He had well-built and brought clean drinking water to people. He's planted watermelons for his community but is forced to stay up at night with flashlights to make sure the elephants don't get to them. The scope at which business can reach is beyond words. It is a felt resonance.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner is a complex and multi-layered journey; it requires a lot of physical and mental effort, but I'd say the hardest part is the emotional labor that comes with it. It is usually the unspoken labor that can stifle growth. I work with a fundamentally nuanced approach that allows for multiple perspectives and considerations to be taken into account and that a simple or straightforward solution may not always be appropriate. Instead, a nuanced approach considers the various factors and dimensions involved and seeks to understand the underlying complexities and interrelationships that exist.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be really clear on your why. It's not if the business is going to get hard; it's when. Being clear on your why will be the guiding light on why you continue to persevere forward.
  2. Stay consistent with mindset work. We are constantly inundated with messaging and need to be just as diligent about what we let in.
  3. Build community and support. Having others that understand the entrepreneurial journey can be so reaffirming and remind you of what you are capable of.
