What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a Story/Career Consultancy for writers. It is a fee-based business where writers pay me on a per-project basis. It is like having their own private studio executive.
Tell us about yourself
I am a Story/Career Coach for screenwriters. I am a speaker. I am a former 12-year studio executive and 13-year Writing Instructor for Writers on the Verge at NBC. I am the author of three books: STORY LINE: FINDING GOLD IN YOUR LIFE STORY, TV WRITING TOOL KIT, CHANGE YOUR STORY, CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am celebrating my company's 15-year anniversary in January of 2023. I've had 106 writers sell TV pilots that I've worked with since starting my company.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is learning to balance your time and prioritize the tasks involved. You must understand the balance between marketing, selling, consulting, informing through newsletters, building different income streams, social media, staying on message, and believing in the outcome.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know what void your business fills in the market.
- Create digital products.
- Be gracious with the free content you give in your newsletters and social media.
