What's your business, and who are your customers?
Jemini Hair Artistry is an experience of total beauty. We are an all-inclusive salon with a broad array of personal services. From creative, vivid colors to stunning blonde to a collection of spa services. We are your collective beauty enterprise—all under one roof.
Tell us about yourself
I've worked under some amazing strong female-operated hair salons in my career, from small-town Drumheller to my current residence in Calgary. I was always a hair hustler and felt the need to go out on my own. At first, it was to create a space for my hair guests and myself. And quickly, it expanded into a fantastic team. I now find myself creating a safe, successful space for amazing artists. I enjoy watching hair artists grow into themselves and love to be a part of their stories, whether for a short time or a long while. Seeing a Jemini team member buy a house or their first car, for example, motivates me to do what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is keeping my transparency, honesty, motivation, and perseverance. I used to think this was my weakness, and I have come to realize that it's what makes me - me. So I now acknowledge it as my strength.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is staying motivated and seeing the big picture. You don't stop or "get comfortable "; you need to stay in the "slightly uncomfortable."
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay educated in your business and your art.
- Let others be your strength where you are weak. You can't do it all.
- Running a business is not a stop; you're in for a wild, fun ride. Do it only if you absolutely love what you do and what you are creating.
