Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in handcrafts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Berins, Founder of JDB Creations by Joshua, located in Amherst, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create Handcrafted Silver and Fused Dichroic glass jewelry.

Tell us about yourself

I started being interested in making jewelry in High School when I was given a Rock Tumbler. I polished stones and bought pre-made findings, and glued them on. I sold these at the High school Art Bazaar. In College, I moved on to Silversmithing and sold in the Campus Center. For years I got away from it and pursued other options. I then returned to jewelry making in 2010 when I took a class on Metal Clay. I have used Silver Metal Clay as my medium since then and got into Fused glass when my kiln came pre-programmed for glass as well as silver clay. I have been doing them separately and combining them together in a jewelry piece.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having my jewelry in a local Art Gallery.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Getting a name for myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

You won’t be successful immediately; it takes hard work, money, and time.
