What's your business, and who are your customers?

As Jock Brocas, I am a spiritual mentor and advocate for deep transformative change in individuals, particularly those in leadership roles or those desiring to make a meaningful impact in the world. My business revolves around harnessing the power of the unseen, the intangible, and the deeply intuitive to catalyze personal and professional development.

The key offering of my service is the "21 Virtues Spiritual Warrior" program, a deeply introspective and transformative journey designed to reorient and recalibrate the internal compass of an individual towards a more enriched, enlightened, and compassionate worldview. By engaging in this program, my clients cultivate profound virtues that extend beyond their personal sphere and into their roles as leaders and influencers. The 21 Virtues Spiritual Warrior program explores various aspects of spiritual growth, including courage, integrity, compassion, patience, and humility, amongst others. The aim is to integrate these virtues into one's daily life, which can lead to radical shifts in perspective, behavior, and the way one engages with the world.

The people I consider my clients or customers are diverse, but they share a common thread: a desire to do more, be more, and impact more. They are leaders in their fields – CEOs, executives, entrepreneurs – who understand the necessity of spiritual growth for authentic leadership. They are also individuals at the precipice of great change or transformation, those who feel a calling to make a significant impact in the world but may need guidance in channeling their passion and energy in the most effective and fulfilling way. Through the 21 Virtues Spiritual Warrior program, I provide them with a structured path toward self-discovery and self-mastery. Each virtue studied in this program serves as a stepping stone toward a deeper understanding of oneself and one's place in the world.

By fostering intuitive insights and spiritual growth, I help these individuals to tap into their own inner wisdom, empowering them to lead with authenticity, make decisions with clarity and conviction, and make a profound difference in the world around them. So, while I may be the guide on this journey, it is truly my clients who are the heroes of their own stories – bravely exploring their inner landscapes, challenging their limitations, and harnessing their potential to create a ripple effect of positive change in the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have forged a unique expertise in the spiritual media field and have developed award-winning publications that are distributed globally and have a tremendous following worldwide. I am also a podcast host in various fields within spirituality, parapsychology, and the paranormal that are respected globally.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I strongly believe that one of the most challenging aspects of being a business owner stems from the inherent desire to extend one's services and aid to every individual. There's a palpable, often tension-ridden, tug-of-war between the urge to give and the need to make a living. It's a constant balancing act that must be performed with grace and intentionality. It is essential to establish and sustain a business model that prioritizes service over profit, not because of the perceived gain but because of the genuine will to make a difference. This begins with adopting an authentic attitude toward service provision, which entails a sincere commitment to improving the lives of clients rather than viewing them as mere sources of income.

Creating an authentic service-based business model demands a deep, introspective examination of one's values and motivations. It's about stripping away the superficial trappings of business to reveal the core purpose of your work: to serve. Being authentic in this sense doesn't mean disregarding the importance of profit—it is vital for survival. But rather, it implies setting a precedent where the purpose of the business and its services transcends the material rewards. Authenticity translates into an honest, transparent, and heartfelt interaction with clients, thereby creating a more human, relatable face of the business.

However, the paradox of service lies in the fact that while we aim to serve as many people as possible, we also have to ensure that we are not stretching ourselves too thin. This is where the concept of creating boundaries comes into play. Boundaries are not barriers or walls meant to keep people out; they are guidelines that ensure sustainable service. They protect your time, your energy, and your resources, ensuring that you can provide your service to the best of your ability without risking burnout or exhaustion. Establishing boundaries can be a challenging endeavor, as it often means saying 'no' when our instinct might be to say 'yes.' It is crucial to remember that by setting these boundaries, we are not diminishing our service but enhancing its value and sustainability.

Coming from a place of service first, in turn, requires a genuine understanding and respect for these boundaries. A service-oriented perspective is not merely about providing a product or service; it's about an authentic connection with clients, understanding their needs, and delivering solutions that truly make a difference in their lives. It is about seeing the clients as individuals who deserve respect, time, and excellent service. Adopting a service-first mindset enables business owners to create more meaningful and impactful relationships with their clientele, as well as foster a healthy and sustainable business environment for themselves.

I would like to end by expounding on the confluence of authenticity; establishing boundaries and a service-first approach is not an easy path. But it is a fulfilling journey that fosters resilience, cultivates meaningful relationships, and ultimately leads to a successful, sustainable business."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Certainly! Here are my top three pieces of advice for anyone contemplating initiating, operating, and expanding a business today:

  1. Embrace the philosophy of Service over Ego: It is never too late to start a business. Age, circumstance, and timing are often perceived as barriers, but the true essence of starting a business lies in your passion, commitment, and intent to serve. A successful business starts with a service-first mentality. This means prioritizing the needs of your customers and the value you provide over personal ego or materialistic pursuits. When your business is rooted in service, you naturally foster loyalty, trust, and a reputation for quality that will resonate with customers and lead to sustainable growth. Remember, a business that comes from service rather than ego is more likely to succeed and make a positive impact on society.
  2. Understand the role of Spirituality: Many people think of business purely in terms of profit and loss, but integrating a spiritual element can provide a deeper sense of purpose and direction. Spirituality in business is not about promoting a particular religion or belief system but rather about recognizing that your business is part of a larger community and ecosystem. It's about making decisions based on values, ethics, and a desire to make a positive impact. This holistic approach will give you a broader perspective and can guide your business through the inevitable ups and downs.
  3. Set Clear and Healthy Boundaries: Starting and running a business requires a lot of time and energy. It's easy to get swept up in the hustle and lose sight of the importance of work-life balance. It is vital to set clear boundaries, both in your personal life and in your business operations. This could mean setting specific work hours, learning to delegate tasks, or saying no to opportunities that don't align with your core business values or personal well-being. Establishing these boundaries will not only protect your mental and physical health but will also ensure that your business remains focused, efficient, and sustainable in the long term.

These three tips encapsulate a balanced approach to business, where service, spirituality, and self-care form the pillars of a thriving, purpose-driven venture. Remember, the journey of entrepreneurship is not a sprint but a marathon, one that requires endurance, resilience, and a strong connection with your inner compass. It's a journey of constant learning, unlearning, and relearning, and every step, no matter how small, takes you closer to your goal.
