Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Madison Boehm, co-founder and COO of Jaxson Maximus, located in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Founded by my father and me, Christian Boehm, in 2018, Jaxson Maximus sought to create the ultimate destination for men to look and feel their best.

Since my sophomore year in high school, we have shared the common goal of starting a unique business concept and building a major fashion brand. My father fanned the flames of my creativity and worked with me to bring my idea from concept to reality. Upon my graduation from the University of Houston's Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship program, we moved to Miami to begin the buildout of the brand's flagship location in Brickell.

Jaxson Maximus is a lifestyle brand. We combine a luxury men's custom clothier, a fine men's salon, and a tailor shop all in one location. Men enjoy many services, such as the Signature Haircut, which includes a trip to the Zen Room. The Zen Room Experience includes a facial, forearm, and hand massage with essential oils and a hot towel treatment.

Other notable services include our close razor shaves, beard trims, charcoal masks, teeth whitening in a zero gravity full body massage chair, or getting fitted for a new custom suit or tuxedo by one of our highly trained custom stylists.

During your visit, enjoy a complimentary drink from our awesome scotch & whiskey bar, shoot a round of pool on our custom-built championship pool table or throw a game of darts; it's the ultimate man cave. We built Jaxson Maximus with the modern gentleman in mind. From the showroom to the proprietary hair products, every part of Jaxson Maximus is made for today's man. We refuse to cut corners and promise to deliver only the best services and products.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in Cleveland, OH. Learning from my father, I always knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur from a very young age. I relocated to Houston, TX, to attend the University of Houston (UH), where I hold a double major in Entrepreneurship & Marketing. While earning my degree at UH, I also graduated from two top-notch business programs.

I was a graduate of the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship, ranked number 1 on Princeton's best Entrepreneurship programs in the country, and the Steven Stagner Sales Excellence Institute, the number 1 sales program in the country.

During my final semester at the Sales Institute, I led a team of four other sales representatives. I managed to win the Top Key Account Award by closing over $200,000 in new partnerships. I also worked for some of the largest fortune 500 companies, such as 3M, where I worked in Boston on the Staples Key Account team. I am also the recipient of Beta Gamma Sigma for her achievements in business and my studies at UH.

Upon graduation, I moved to Miami to build the Jaxson Maximus Flagship showroom. I enjoy ethnic culinary spots around town, painting, refurbishing vintage furniture, golfing, and spending time with my dogs in my free time. I am motivated by my team and building a successful brand all across the country.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As the owner of Jaxson Maximus, some of our biggest accomplishments come from the awards that we have won. We were named one of the top 20 salons in the county in 2020 by Salon Today. We were the only men's salon on that list, which is a big accomplishment for the team.

We were also named the top men's salon in Miami by Expertise and other local organizations. In 2021, we were featured on HBO's The Shop, produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a new business owner is that the work does not stop. You think about the business 24-7 regardless if you are out with a friend or on vacation. You tend to worry about every aspect of the business, including staffing, finance, custom reviews, etc.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hire people that are smarter than you: as an owner, you will not be an expert in every category.
  2. Learn to delegate: learn the strengths and weaknesses of your team and delegate tasks based on those traits.
  3. Don't be afraid to try: at Jaxson Maximus, we have tried and failed numerous times. Don't be afraid to try a new product, way of marketing, etc.
