Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in social media & marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Yormark, Owner and CEO of Socialistics, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Socialistics is a full-service social media agency that serves businesses that are usually over $1M/year in revenue and stand to benefit from a real results-focused agency to manage their social media needs.

Tell us about yourself

I was always wired to be an entrepreneur, but for me, everything came together later in life in terms of the right timing. I felt like a square peg in a round hole throughout my career as I was always wanting to get things done and often got frustrated with too many meetings or layers of management for that to happen.

I'm motivated every day by our core value...freedom. The freedom to live my life on my own terms and to provide the same for my team.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Hitting $1M in yearly revenue as a business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The occasional stresses and anxiety that come with the ups and downs of business and worrying about being able to continue to take care of my team.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build a runway for your business. Most people don't have the luxury of walking away from a steady paycheck. Get your brand launched online, develop ongoing digital content, and take on a few customers/clients for reduced rates or for free to build up your portfolio and/or reputation.
  2. Don't settle for average employees; hire rock stars. Hiring is a time-consuming and expensive process. Use video to filter out candidates at scale to help you save time and ensure you're getting top candidates.
  3. Niche your offering. More and more people are starting businesses, and it's getting harder to break through the noise. Make sure you come out of the gate focused on a specific niche, whether that be by industry or your specific offering.
