Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food ana beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fadi Eid, Founder of Jamjar, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Jamjar is a from-scratch approach Lebanese food purveyor serving health-conscious foodies in casual and fast casual settings.

Tell us about yourself

I ventured into entrepreneurship at an intersection in my career when I felt I was lacking purpose. It had always been a dream to have my own restaurant, but when I landed in Vancouver, I felt my Lebanese heritage could have better representation, and Jamjar was a means to communicate that culture and bring people together over food. I’m driven by the daily challenges that develop my team and me to continuously improve, offer our customers a better experience and continuously grow.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Jamjar is closing on a decade shortly. We wouldn’t have gotten here without the efforts of some amazing individuals. I’m proud of the team that we have developed and the culture that we’ve created over the years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Doing what’s best for the business and the best for your people doesn’t always align. Parting with some long-standing team members because they weren’t serving the growth of the company was probably one of the hardest things I’ve had to do so far. The weight of making decisions that impact people’s lives is not for the faint-hearted.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Accept that change is the only constant and groom your team members to adopt that mindset.
  2. Surround yourself with a village of supporters; you cannot achieve anything alone for a sustained period of time.
  3. Your biggest competition is yourself; challenge yourself daily to be better. If you achieve this, you’ll never have to worry about external competition.
