Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jameson Watermulder, owner of Rosedale's Finest, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business, Rosedale’s Finest, is a boutique specialty food store offering private chef services and custom catered events. We focus on small-batch production in prepared foods, fresh baked foods, espresso-based beverages, and specialty grocery items for in-store shopping.

Tell us about yourself

Hi, my name is Jameson, Owner and Executive Chef of Rosedale’s Finest am a Type A perfectionist who was born on November 1 - a left-handed Scorpio. For those who know, that’s a dangerous combination. Nothing is ever good enough for this mix, and I am always finding a way to do better. I am passionate about food, creating and providing memories and comfort to customers through the home dining experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Remaining open in a challenging and competitive industry, especially during the pandemic where there are major staff shortages and scarce products. Further, being innovative enough to keep interested in a small business over time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having all the answers and finding them quickly, if not knowing them. The need for thinking outside the box every day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know what you’re getting into. It’s a thankless job, and no one really knows what you go through on a daily basis.
  2. Be accountable because everything falls on you.
  3. Open your mind to endless possibilities because innovation is the number one key.
