Building a Realistic & Actionable Plan - Jaime Taets

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jaime Taets, Founder of Keystone Group International, located in St. Louis Park, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Keystone Group International is a boutique consulting firm focused on helping organizations scale and grow by driving impact at the human level through strategic planning, leadership development, and culture.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career in a large corporation. I had an amazing global experience before setting out on my own 9 years ago. I am motivated by impact, both on leaders and their organizations. My goal is always to drive healthy change and shift people's perspectives. You can't solve your business problems with the same thinking you used to create them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a rockstar team of people who are also driven by impact. I feel lucky every day to work with and learn from my amazing team and clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing risk. Every decision you make as a business owner has some element of risk. If you live in fear of taking a risk, it is a very stressful world. I think a lot of people believe entrepreneurship is sexy and exciting, and there are elements that are, but most of your success relies on how well you deal with risk and uncertainty and build the muscle to move forward, even in the face of fear.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Double down on you - have confidence that you have done hard things before, and you can do this if you put your energy into it.
  2. Know your risk tolerance - your risk tolerance depends on your life stage and what risk you are able to take. The approach I take or how I create success may need to look different than another business owner. Know your own risk appetite so you can remain committed to your business venture.
  3. Use fear as a catalyst for change - instead of worrying about your fear and the things that feel uncertain, you have to use that energy to fuel action to move you forward.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I have had so many mentors and inspirations in my journey. I hope to inspire others to chase their dreams.
