Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jacqui Lepoureau, Founder of Counselling & Healing with Jacqui, located in Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer healing arts services such as Clinical Reflexology, Intuitive Reiki Energy Healing, Access Bars, Ayurvedic Head Massage, and Therapeutic Counselling. When appropriate, I combine talk therapy and energetic healing. My clients come to me for support in finding emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual insight and balance. For my Healing Services, I adapt my work as appropriate to include everyone, from newborns to seniors, with all levels of health. In my counselling practice, I currently work mainly with adult women in the areas of depression, anxiety, self-worth, grief, and with those wanting to do the shift work for the creation of a more meaningful and balanced life.

Tell us about yourself

My journey began with my own personal therapy and self-growth through reiki energy healing in the mid-1990s. But, it wasn't until I qualified as a reflexologist in 2007 that I began my professional practice. I haven't stopped learning since that day! Knowing that we are more than just pure physical machines has motivated me daily since. The greatest return my work gives me is seeing my clients leave my practice with a deeper understanding of self, hope, relief, and lightness in their beings.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been succeeding in continuing to build my business while training to be a counsellor, being a parent to 2 teen boys, and running a home. Oh! And doing a lot of this while living through a pandemic!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me as a business owner is remembering that my business is a business! Like many of my counsellor and professional healing colleagues, I find it challenging to balance my heart, vocation, and the running of a business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research - check out the competition, and find your niche.
  2. Work on a comprehensive business plan before starting and
  3. Find and become an active member of at least two solid and relevant networks that will support you in your start-up.
