Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chris Garrick, owner, and president of Jackson Springs Natural Premium Spring Water, located in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Jackson Springs is "100% Natural " Premium Spring Water which has won Best Tasting Water in the World three times in the past ten years. Jackson Springs is almost a mineral water containing naturally occurring calcium, magnesium, and Silica (The Beauty Mineral). It's sodium-free, fluoride-free, and offers an amazing pH value of 8.1. A majority of waters that are offered today are nothing more than processed municipal tap waters, which have been stripped, demineralized, and acidic. We are premium water chosen by educated consumers who demand the best in taste and health benefits at a very reasonable price.

Tell us about yourself

I first became a spring water customer over 20 years ago after searching for the healthiest water to consume. I read an article titled " Health Risks of Drinking Demineralized Tap Water." I originally felt that Water Was Water; what's the difference? Today many documentaries support the consumption of natural over-processed, such as" Down to Earth " episode 2 with Zac Efron.

Over the past nineteen years, we've educated customers on the differences between processed and natural waters and feel that an " Educated Consumer is our Best Customer " What motivates us is that our customers would not drink anything else for taste, nutritional value, and for those who suffer from heartburn or acid reflux. I really feel a great sense of pride as everyone raves about our water and our service. We have a significant amount of " Five Star Google Reviews" that back us up. Our award-winning water has also won the best packaging and design awards three times throughout the world. It is also the favorite water from Canada by Martin Riese (World Famous Water Sommelier).

We currently distribute our premium one-liter bottle to upscale distributors who promote premium products throughout the world. Premium Waters from throughout the world range in price from $4 to over $130 for a one-liter bottle. Although the average meridian price for a premium one-liter water is over $11, Jackson Springs is typically offered in restaurants, bars, casinos, and hotels in the $6- $8 range offering great value to the consumers and margins for upscale distributors and resellers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's like the Remington Shaver Story! I liked the product so much, and it was so unique I bought the company and built a business that I'm very proud of. I've assembled a great team of people who are experts in their fields. Although I had my challenges, I have learned to believe in my dreams and never give up!!!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Believe that your product or service is the best, stick with the plan, always be an optimist and look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have the Best Product or service that offers a Unique Selling Perspective.
  2. Only market a premium product or service. If you are selling at the lowest price, you will not succeed.
  3. Surround Yourself with Great people, including staff, and You can't do it all alone.
