Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in professional development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alistair Davis, Founder of Jabba, located in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Selling and presenting software virtually can be nerve-wracking and frustrating. So frustrating that you lose your confidence and fail to close the sale. You want to master the latest technology to build trust with prospects and stay competitive. But you don't know where to start.

Luckily, I train SaaS salespeople, teams, and leaders on closing deals with online presentations and demos that get prospects excited about their solutions.

I can help you:
💥 Hook people's attention in the first five minutes
💥 Master your vocal delivery to build trust - FAST
💥 Tell stories that evoke emotions and curiosity
💥 Boost your confidence by making fewer mistakes

Selling yourself online is a new challenge. Your prospects seem more focused on their phone than on your slides. Before the meeting, they seemed interested in talking to you. But now, they barely answer your questions or emails. This is because your sales presentation killed the momentum. Or your demo was so boring that they no longer cared about your software. 😞

Get people excited about your solution by creating persuasive presentations that acknowledge their problems, stir emotions, and position your product as the ultimate solution. I've spent many years in software sales at major companies like Oracle. I've coached over 5,000 people at SAP, Salesforce, and Google on building presentations and demos that sell. Some of my clients are Google, SAP, Salesforce, Software AG, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I am the founder & Chief Speaking Officer at Jabba Training. Jabba’s focus is on transforming professionals into powerful presenters, persuaders, and negotiators, focusing on the virtual communication trinity of production, platform, performance, and voice.

I am also currently a professional voice actor and former actor. Over the past 10 years, I have voiced over 2000 commercial, radio & television voiceovers. I draw on my voice acting and acting skills when teaching my own proprietary methodology for voice improvement.

Previously, I worked for Oracle in sales and was in the Oracle economy for 10 years. Before doing this, I also ran my own business in energy efficiency and successfully taught my own salespeople to use the power of their voice to find and close business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Jabba has trained over 5000 professionals virtually over the past 3 years with a net promoter score of over 88%. Jabba is also a global vendor to Google, SAP, and Salesforce.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

If you are on your own, not having a sounding board to bounce ideas off of. Celebrating and recognition of success is also a challenge, i.e., are you doing well, how far have you come, where are you in the pecking order - you are the only yardstick of success. In corporate, recognition from management and your team members tells you that you are and have done well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Persistence beats talent - keep going, keep doing a little bit every day, and results will come.
  2. Perfection will be the end of you - done is the new perfect. If something isn't perfect, the doing will make it perfect, and you will get to where you need to be that way.
  3. You are not an island - surround yourself with experts that know more about certain things than you. Finance and marketing are key functions; make sure you have good advice in these areas.
