What's your business, and who are your customers?
J' Maure Candle Co specializes in customized fragranced 100% Soy Wax Candles and other fragranced products. My customers are candle lovers of all ages.
Tell us about yourself
I started making candles during COVID-19. I was laid off from a job and needed to create or have an income to provide for my family. I am a person who is big on scents, and watching a television show, one day, someone was making candles, and the idea popped into my head that I could make candles of all fragrances. I am motivated each day by being able to satisfy my customer's wants and needs. I give my customers the option to choose their own fragrances, vessels, and colors. I love to see their faces when they smell each and every candle. That smile warms my heart.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was being able to showcase my brand and sell my products on Amazon. I was accepted into the Amazon Black Accelerator program.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me, being a business owner is not being able to reach my target audience and receive my shipments on time, inflation, and also gaining capital.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Research everything.
- If it's product based, test all products before selling.
- Make sure you have a team for support.

Yes! Making candles is soothing to the soul; it can be very therapeutic.
